As an alder who represents a boarder ward, I hear from local business owners about the increasing strain of operating in Chicago – particularly our family-owned establishments. We held a press conference on Sept 9 to urge the administration to fulfill its obligation and begin issuing licenses for video gaming terminals.
As Co-Chair of the Chicago and Cook County Violence Against Women Task Force, I was proud to join fellow chair Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller, advocates, specialists, and agencies to present our findings and recommendations to the City Council’s Public Safety Committee.
Six months of hard work, diligent data collection, and a thorough audit of the broken system faced by victims of domestic violence has yielded specific and actionable reforms that must be enacted. This is what government should be doing, working together open and honestly to address issues that can literally save lives.

A new artificial turf field is coming for Azuela Elementary School in the West Lawn community. The item passed City Council today. Thank you to all my colleagues for their support, especially 13th Ward Marty Quinn. At my request, the City Council’s Public Safety Committee held a public hearing with Cook County officials to discuss the current state of warrants, orders of protections and electronic monitoring. It’s clear more must be done and the county needs to be more forthcoming with data.
