Though we’ve seen crime decreases in Chicago, domestic violence homicides are up 27%—47 lives lost in 2025 alone. I’m proud to sponsor the Chicago-Cook County Task Force to identify systemic failures & propose real solutions. Huge thanks to colleagues—Ald. Fuentes, Lopez, Chico & others—who shared raw family stories of survival to help drive this forward. We cleared committee on Monday, November 10; and final vote is Friday, November 14. When progress elsewhere shows what’s possible, this crisis demands we fix what’s broken. I want to especially thank Katie Dunne with Rebel Health and Carmen Navarro Gercone for their support as well as all the survivors that shared their personal stories during public comment.

We will not tolerate antisemitism being normalized in Chicago. Because those that push this hate against our Jewish neighbors are also those who attack our law enforcement, attempt to dismantle capitalism, and undermine the very pillars of society that have given us so much and have made both the U.S. and Israel two of the most successful nations in the world. Proud to join colleagues and leaders who have moral clarity and courage to stand up and say enough is enough.

Alderman Tabares says that we are going to keep seeing suicides until there is a big change in the political culture of Chicago. We need to have a common-sense approach to police accountability. We need to make the job more attractive to hire more officers. And we need to stop empowering the radical activists who think the very idea of policing is racist.

With the current issues we are facing with violent crime in Chicago, I continue to support amending the welcoming city ordinance and propose that those who break the law, must be the priority for immigration officials.

This vote on the bond should have been a commonsense NO. We need to make decisions in our city about what kind of city we want 5, 10, 20 years from now. This bond is a ticking time bomb for taxpayers and I will not support something that will make our city unlivable for my son and other families down the road.

We are a week away from a new administration in the White House, which has promised to make Chicago the epicenter of mass deportations. In private discussions with members of my community and my colleagues, there is much agreement that changes need to be made to ensure that violent criminals are prioritized over our hardworking families. As we begin these negotiations, it is time for leadership.
My hope was that this ordinance would begin these critical discussions.
